Yew - This painting is called "Ancient Spirit" - First in a series of trees held sacred by the Druids of Ireland, the artist's rendition of this ancient Yew shows a hint of symbolism in the 'Triple-spiral' on its' trunk. Yew trees can grow for centuries, and were often associated with death and reincarnation. High on the list of sacred Celtic trees, the wood of the Yew was used for carving tools of divination. Likewise, a Yew was often the central "world tree" in sacred spaces. With this piece the artist has paid homage to the spirit of the tree.
