Duir, the mighty Oak, is the Celtic tree of the seventh lunar month,
and it represents the letter 'D'. Oak is the tree of the Dagda, the
"Old One" who is the god of perfect Knowledge who was the patriarch of
the gods of Ancient Ireland. As well as being symbolic of strength and
endurance, Oak is often associated with Kingship and hospitality. The
word Druid is derived from the name Duir [door] and it is said that King
Arthur's Round Table was made from a single slab of Oak wood. As the
Celtic chief protected and sheltered, so also does the royal Oak,
guardian of the doorway to the Other World. Look for the Raven, the
Lady,Owl, Dagda, and a few other mysteries in this painting!
