“Celtic Cross at Cashel”

"Cashel of the Kings sits atop a huge rocky outcropping overlooking the lovely ‘Golden Vale’ of County Tipperary. The history of this most important medieval ruin begins in approximately the 4th century when the Rock was claimed by clannish Welshmen, the Eoghanachta. Saint Patrick himself visited the Rock in the 5th century, converted King Aenghus, and proclaimed the site a bishopric. In the 10th century, the great Ard Ri, Brian Boru, was crowned here. In the 12th century Cashel was given to the Church and Cormac MacCarthy commenced building his Chapel, which survives to this day."
