This holy well is located very close to the incredible monastic site
of
Clonmacnoise, founded by St. Ciarán in County Offaly around 548 AD. The
Hawthorn is perhaps the tree that most represents the struggles of early
Christianty against Paganism. Still respected as a tree of enchantment
under the protection of the Faerie realm, Hawthorns bloom in the month
of May, Mary's month. For the Christian, the beautiful blooms are said
to help prayers reach Heaven while in the pagan religion the tree
symbolizes fertility. The blossoming of the Hawthorn marks the end of
the dark winter and the certain return of the fullness of Spring. In
this painting the artist has incorporated animals symbolic to the
Celts. A key is provided with your purchase so that you may find the
Salmon of Knowledge, the Hound of Cuchulainn, the Raven, plus several
other images hidden within.
The artist offers archival giclées of this scene in two sizes and two
types. You may choose between canvas prints so real
that they look like originals, or paper prints on 100 lb. acid free
stock, matted in dark green, using only acid-free materials...
both are signed and numbered by the artist.
