"Sinn Féin"
Size Before Framing: 24" x 30"
$2,300.00

"A hide-covered boat called a currach has been used in Ireland for centuries, and you can still see them occasionally in the West of Ireland today. Used for fishing, transportation, and load-bearing forays between the islands and the mainland, the currach appears very fragile when pitted against the wild Atlantic. It was in a boat such as this one, however, that Saint Brendan the Navigator sailed to Nova Scotia! Men of the sea like the three painted here also used these boats during rescue operations off Queenstown, now Cobh, rowing some 38 miles in order to save as many lives as possible from the sinking Lusitania."

"I have broken my own rule with this painting! These subjects were photographed in the 60's by my dear friend John Kenny of Palenville, NY; when he gave me the photo and said 'paint it!', I couldn't refuse!!"

"I've named this work "Sinn Féin" which translates from the Irish to 'Ourselves Alone'. It is framed in a lovely teal frame/gold lip and the framed size is 28"x34" [the linen canvas itself is 24" x 30"]."
